Living here
A Tuesday in Tathawade
Getting home
Most of the way in, the Aundh-Ravet road is wide enough to lull you. Then comes the Tathawade underpass, formally flagged for widening alongside Punawale's and Ravet's. Turn off at the JSPM stretch and the last few hundred metres is PG boards and cheap food counters with queues on them. Come from the east instead and you have already paid at Dange Chowk.
Your street
Footpaths come and go, hoarding fills the gaps, and whether your street is pleasant depends almost entirely on how far it sits from a campus gate. What Tathawade has in unusual quantity is turf: TurfX, Metro Sports Arena, Vedant, My Sports Club, one after another. Decathlon anchors the retail end. Everything else is under construction or recently was.
How the week goes
Two peaks stack here where other places get one. Rajarshi Shahu and Indira empty at half eight and again between four and half five, and the IT run lands on top of it rather than beside it. Then Hinjawadi exhales at half six and flows back through. Ganeshotsav is louder than you would expect of a young area, because the hostels and PG blocks stay full straight through it.
What you'd put up with
The cost is that nothing here is really yours. Students cycle through on three-year leases, the streets nearest the hostels are awake at one in the morning, and there is no market, no temple crowd, nothing that would notice if you left. Add tanker water in the dry months, belt-wide construction dust, and Kalewadi Phata every single time you need to go east.
Written from the same researched record as the rest of this page. Every place named here is one we hold a source for. Where we had nothing to say about a corner, we left it out rather than filling it in.
Buying
What it costs to buy in Tathawade
Stamp duty
7.00%
6% where every buyer is a woman. You are in Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.
- Base duty
- 5%
- Metro cess
- 1%
- Local body surcharge
- 1%
PCMC is very likely at parity with Pune city at 7%, and the metro cess is independently confirmed to reach Pimpri-Chinchwad. One lender publishes a lower location-dependent range, which we could not reconcile. Treat 7% as the budget figure.
Government valuation
₹6,734/sq ft
₹4,925–7,613 across 10 sub-zones
Duty is charged on this or on your price, whichever is higher. Negotiating below it does not reduce the bill. And past a 10% gap, the difference is taxed as your income.
Zone: Tathawade (PCMC series), zone 28.6 (Area to the West of the National Highway). Two republishers of the Mumbai tables differ by a consistent 15%. We could not verify either against the IGR original, so treat these as indicative of the zone, not as your flat's valuation. Look up your own zone at IGR Maharashtra.
Rent against price
Nothing in Tathawade is listed for sale right now, so there is no price to read the rent against.
The vibe
Life in Tathawade
Tathawade sits in the gap between Wakad's density and the expressway, and it has filled that gap with two things: engineering colleges and rental towers. The JSPM campuses bring a large student and faculty population, which keeps the food cheap and the PGs plentiful, while the newer projects take IT renters who want Wakad's access without Wakad's prices. It is well placed — Hinjewadi one way, Wakad and Aundh the other — and genuinely convenient for a car-owning couple. It is also unlovely in stretches: patchy footpaths, construction hoarding, a main road that carries far more than it should, and very little that anchors the place beyond the colleges. Do not expect quiet if you land near a campus gate.

Festivals, crowds and what to expect
No traffic advisory we have read names Tathawade for a festival. That does not mean the year is quiet here. It means the disruption has not been big enough to reach a published advisory, which is a useful thing to know but not the same as silence.
Also noted locally in Tathawade
Ganesh Chaturthi
Aug–Sep, 10 daysGaneshotsav is loud and student-heavy in Tathawade because the college hostels and PG blocks stay open through it, and the mandal processions use the Aundh-Ravet road, with immersion convoys heading to the Pavana ghats at Ravet and Thergaon that PCMC listed among its 104 sites in September 2026.
Ashadhi Wari
Jun–Jul, palkhi fortnightAshadhi Wari matters indirectly: the July 2026 heavy-vehicle bans between Dehu Kaman and Bhakti Shakti and the closure of the Central Chowk to Bhakti Shakti stretch push traffic onto the highway service roads that Tathawade shares with Punawale.

Worth knowing
- Two college peaks (roughly 8.30-9.30am and 4-5.30pm) stacked on top of the IT peak
- PG and hostel density means late-night noise on the streets nearest the campuses
- The Tathawade underpass is too narrow and was formally flagged for widening (Free Press Journal, Nov 2025)
- Belt-wide construction dust and RMC-plant emissions
- Tanker water in the dry months
- Dange Chowk and Kalewadi Phata jams on the way east
The decibel calculator— how loud does it actually get here?
Estimated at a Tathawade home · Aug–Sep
80–95 dB
Like a loud procession passing — you'll pause conversations near windows.
Pune's defining ten days — mandal loudspeakers, dhol-tasha pathaks and immersion processions converging on Laxmi Road and the river ghats; MPCB monitoring has repeatedly logged readings above 100 dB along the procession corridors.
Modelled estimate (noise-v1.0) from this area's festival calendar and quietness, anchored to MPCB Ganeshotsav monitoring. Laxmi Road procession corridors have repeatedly measured above 100 dB during visarjan. Not a measurement at your window — but an honest basis for the decision.

On the ground
Traffic and infrastructure
Tathawade has a traffic pattern nowhere else in this slice has: two big engineering campuses, JSPM's Rajarshi Shahu College of Engineering and Indira College, empty onto the same roads twice a day, and the 8.30-9.30am and 4-5.30pm college peaks land on top of the IT peak rather than beside it. The Aundh-Ravet road is the spine and it is wide; the failures are at Dange Chowk, at Kalewadi Phata further east, and at the Tathawade underpass, which residents told Free Press Journal in November 2025 is too narrow and needs widening along with Punawale's and Ravet's. Hinjawadi is close enough to be the draw and close enough that its 6.30pm exhaust flows back through here.
- Roads
- The Aundh-Ravet road is wide and well-surfaced and is the reason Tathawade works at all. Off it, the Tathawade underpass is a named bottleneck that residents asked PCMC to widen in November 2025, and the lanes between the college campuses and the newer towers are narrow with parking on both sides.
- Water
- PCMC supply, with the same belt-wide problem: residents of Punawale-Ravet-Tathawade reported very poor supply and routine tanker purchase to Free Press Journal in November 2025. Student PG blocks and hostels add load that the network was not sized for.
- Power
- MSEDCL urban feeders, generally stable, with the inconsistency residents flagged in November 2025.
- Drainage & monsoon
- Mixed. The older Tathawade gaothan and the Jeevan Nagar side have legacy drains; the new layouts have storm-water lines that were laid ahead of the buildings. Waterlogging shows up at the underpass mouths rather than in the layouts.
Getting around
Public transport and last mile
- Metro
- No station in Tathawade. Line 3 (Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar, 23 km/23 stations) had completed end-to-end trial runs and its Maan-R.K. Laxman Museum phase (13.3 km, 12 stations) was 'ready for opening subject to statutory approvals' as of PuneNow, 18 June 2026; an earlier Swarajya report had it opening 31 March 2026, which did not happen, so treat it as imminent rather than running. Its nearest stations are on the Wakad/Hinjawadi side of the corridor, a 4-6 km feeder ride. A Nigdi-Chakan Phase 2 corridor (40.9 km, 31 stations, Rs 10,383 cr) with stations listed at Bhakti-Shakti Chowk, Ravet, Punawale, Tathawade, Wakad, Nashik Phata, Bhosari MIDC and Moshi had a revised plan ready in April 2026 but was still awaiting PCMC approval - proposed, not sanctioned (Punekar News, 7 Apr 2026).
- Rail
- None relevant. Akurdi and Chinchwad are the nearest stations on the Lonavala line; nobody commutes on them.
- Bus
- PMPML on the Aundh-Ravet road and the highway service road, plus heavy private and college bus traffic. IT company shuttles to Hinjawadi are the practical service.
- Last mile
- Autos are easy near the college gates and Dange Chowk because of the student demand - the best last-mile in this slice - but two-wheelers still dominate.

What it costs in Pune
- part-time cleaning (jhadu-pocha)₹4.5k – ₹10k / month
MyBuddyMaid's Pune page quotes INR 4,500-9,000/month for a part-time maid, defined as '1-4 hours a day - sweeping-mopping, utensils, dusting and laundry on a fixed daily slot'. Broomees, which operates in Pune, quotes INR 6,000-10,000/month for part-time maids across its service cities. MyBuddyMaid explicitly labels its numbers 'indicative monthly bands, not quotes' and publishes identical bands for every city, so they carry no Pune-specific signal.
Moves with: Hours per day, days per week, tasks included, household and home size, locality.
- cook, one meal₹10k – ₹18k / month
IMPORTANT - not split by number of meals. MyBuddyMaid's Pune page quotes INR 10,000-18,000/month for a cook covering 'one or more daily meal slots, matched to your cuisine and diet preferences'. No Pune-specific source separates a one-meal from a two-meal rate.
Moves with: Number of meal slots, cuisine, family size.
- full-time live-out₹12.5k – ₹26k / month
Broomees quotes INR 12,500-20,000/month for full-time maids across its cities including Pune. MyBuddyMaid's Pune page quotes INR 16,000-26,000/month for a full-time maid working '8-12 hours a day (or live-in) who handles all daily household chores' - its band does not separate live-out from live-in.
Moves with: Hours, task mix, household size, locality.
- nanny / childcare₹14k – ₹24k / month
MyBuddyMaid's Pune page quotes INR 14,000-24,000/month for 'trained childcare help for infants, toddlers and school-age children'. Band is not Pune-specific.
Moves with: Child's age, number of children, live-in vs live-out, training.
- elder care₹15k – ₹25k / month
MyBuddyMaid's Pune page quotes INR 15,000-25,000/month for 'non-medical companionship and daily assistance for senior citizens at home'. Band is not Pune-specific.
Moves with: Level of assistance, night duty, live-in vs live-out.
How people actually find someone
Broomees
Operates in Pune alongside Delhi NCR, Bangalore and Ranchi, placing all-rounders, cooks, babysitters, domestic help, elderly and patient care providers and 24-hour live-in workers. The household books online and Broomees sends vetted candidates; it states the salary 'is to be mutually discussed and directly managed between the customer and the helper' and that it takes no cut from the worker's salary.
Cost: INR 49 booking fee plus 18% GST (about INR 57.82), periodically waived for the all-rounder service, plus a monthly membership fee. Salary is paid directly to the worker.
MyBuddyMaid
Placement platform with a dedicated Pune city page and pincode-level service pages. One-time access fee for a verified candidate pool; the household interviews and agrees the salary with the helper after the interview.
Cost: One-time access charge: Silver INR 4,999, Gold INR 5,999, Diamond INR 6,999.
Helper4U
Pan-India placement marketplace for maids, cooks, nannies, caregivers and drivers, operating since 2016; households buy a hiring package to view profiles and interview candidates.
Cost: Tiered one-off hiring packages paid by the household; states no commission and no monthly fees on the worker's salary.
MyGate
Used by Pune societies for visitor management, resident communication and society accounting - 27,000+ communities and 5 million+ homes across 50+ cities. Daily help are normally admitted on a resident-issued gate code or pass.
Cost: Paid by the society.
In Tathawade: Tathawade gaothan and the wastis on the Punawale side supply full-time help at the lowest end of Pune rates, and the student population means part-time cooks and tiffin services are unusually easy to find. , our own read on the area, without a source behind it, unlike everything above.
What the law says
There is no legal minimum wage for domestic work here.
Domestic work is not a scheduled employment in this state, so nothing sets a floor. That makes what you pay a matter of conscience rather than compliance.
Police verification
Maharashtra's procedure applies: the household applies for a domestic help / servant verification at the nearest police station, submitting a passport-size photograph of the worker and a photo identity proof (Aadhaar, driving licence, ration card, voter ID or PAN). Guidance on the state procedure states it is advisory rather than compulsory, and that the resulting verification report has no fixed validity period - it lasts as long as whoever is relying on it accepts it. For a formal police clearance certificate, Maharashtra runs pcs.mahaonline.gov.in, a six-step flow (registration, login, application, fee payment, verification by the local police station, verification by the citizen facilitation centre) with a 24x7 helpline on 1800 120 8040. Unlike Mumbai Police, Pune City Police does not publish a dedicated online domestic-servant form that could be verified; its site is a JavaScript application whose forms section could not be read.
The official pageWorth knowing
- Pune has no legal wage floor for domestic work. The nearest honest benchmark is Maharashtra's general unskilled minimum wage, about INR 13,921/month Zone I from 1 January 2026 - a full-time live-out worker paid less than that is being paid below what the state considers the floor for unskilled work in any other sector.
- Registration with the Maharashtra Domestic Workers Welfare Board is the worker's own entitlement and is voluntary; the 2008 Act imposes no registration duty on employers and no employer contribution. A fair employer helps with the paperwork - and with free e-Shram registration - and deducts nothing for either.
- Pune's IT-corridor societies (Hinjewadi, Kharadi, Baner, Wakad) are largely gated with app-based entry, so a new worker cannot get in until the resident adds her at the gate. Check the society's rules on daily-help entry hours and lift access before you sign a lease, and refuse any rule that requires a worker to leave an original ID document at the gate.
- The ILO's 2017 employer survey covered Delhi and Mumbai, not Pune, but its finding on hiring channels is the best available guide to how this works anywhere in urban India: 51% of employer households found their worker through neighbours, 21% through other domestic workers already working nearby, and only 2% through a formal agency. Expect the same in Pune, and expect that a referral chain costs nothing - do not let anyone charge the incoming worker for an introduction.
- Written terms cost nothing and prevent most disputes: hours, tasks, the monthly amount, the pay date, paid leave, notice on both sides, and the festival bonus if you intend to give one. The ILO survey found written contracts rare, and that workers typically expected two to four days off a month with wage deduction for that leave already declining as a practice.
- The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013 covers domestic workers, with the route being the district Local Committee rather than an internal committee. Awareness among workers is close to zero - the Martha Farrell Foundation's 2018 study of 291 domestic workers found none had approached a Local Committee.
Researched 2026-09. Rates and rules both move; check the official page before you rely on the process, and treat the ranges as a shape rather than a quote.

Cooks, househelp & staff. How it actually works
- 1
The society network hires first
Most cooks and househelps in a building already work in it. Ask the society office and your floor's neighbours before anything else — staff who are known to the building come with built-in references and realistic timings.
- 2
The watchman is the real directory
Security staff know who serves which flats, who has a free slot, and who is reliable. A polite word at the gate typically produces two or three introductions within days.
- 3
Agree the terms everyone uses
Monthly pay scales with tasks and building norms — ask two neighbours what the going rate is on your floor before negotiating. Standard practice: one paid day off a week, a Diwali bonus of one month's pay, and advance notice on leave both ways.
- 4
Do the verification properly
Police verification for domestic staff can be done through your city police's citizen portal — Mumbai and Delhi run it online; Bengaluru accepts forms at the local station. Most societies require it, and good staff expect it. Keep a copy of ID, and share your own references too; trust runs both ways.
