A Tuesday in Manjri
Getting home
You turn off Solapur Road at Manjari Phata and the traffic stops being your problem. The Hadapsar-Manjri Road runs out past the turf grounds and the stud farm, over the flyover across the Daund line, and the last stretch is quiet enough that you can hear your own indicator. Autos will come this far; most households have decided the two-wheeler is simpler anyway.
Your street
Two kinds of street share one name. In the Manjri Budruk gaothan the lanes are old village width, with Ramdevbaba and Bhavani super markets and Tulsi Traders doing the shopping for everybody. Outside that, the new roads run between compound walls and badminton arenas with no shopfronts at all. It never grew a service high street, and the absence is what you notice daily.
How the week goes
For eight months of the year this is one of the easier eastern commutes, with the queues sitting at the Solapur Road end rather than anywhere inside. Evenings are floodlights at Aspire and Sajag and not much else. Ganeshotsav brings pandals into the Budruk and Khurd lanes and an immersion procession down the riverside route past the crematorium on the Mula-Mutha.
What you'd put up with
Then the monsoon arrives and Punekar News's list of places that stop moving reads like your route home: the railway flyover approaches, the Mahadevnagar road, the PMC School junction at Gopalpatti, the Rangicha Odha crossing, and the Manjri Khurd submersible bridge, which is called that because going under is its design. No gym, no yoga studio, no laundry, no cinema. Errands mean driving to Hadapsar.
Written from the same researched record as the rest of this page. Every place named here is one we hold a source for. Where we had nothing to say about a corner, we left it out rather than filling it in.

Zone: Manjari Budruk, zone 75/3 / 75/4 (Developed and Developable properties adjoining the village). Two republishers of the Mumbai tables differ by a consistent 15%. We could not verify either against the IGR original, so treat these as indicative of the zone, not as your flat's valuation. Look up your own zone at IGR Maharashtra.

The vibe
Life in Manjri
Manjri is what Keshavnagar was five years ago: the last stretch of green along the Mula-Mutha before Pune stops, now filling up with mid-priced towers aimed at Magarpatta and Hadapsar salaries. The Manjri stud farm and the riverside keep the air better than most of the east, and rents are low enough that people take the extra square footage over the shorter commute. Everything funnels back through Hadapsar, though, so a bad evening on Solapur Road is your evening too. Shops, schools and hospitals are mostly a drive away in Hadapsar rather than here, and the last kilometre of some approach roads is still village-grade.

Festivals, crowds and what to expect
No traffic advisory we have read names Manjri for a festival. That does not mean the year is quiet here. It means the disruption has not been big enough to reach a published advisory, which is a useful thing to know but not the same as silence.

Aug–Sep, 10 daysGaneshotsav brings pandals into the gaothan lanes of Manjri Budruk and Manjri Khurd and an immersion procession that uses the riverside route past the crematorium on the Mula-Mutha, with the citywide visarjan advisory diverting traffic on immersion day.
Ashadhi Wari
Jun–Jul, palkhi fortnightAshadhi Wari puts a heavy-vehicle restriction point at Manjari/Manterwadi Phata, which is Manjri's own junction with Solapur Road, and closes the Pune-Solapur Highway along the procession route on the palkhi day (11 July in the 2026 advisory), so the way into the area is policed rather than free for two or three days.
Area-level colour from our own research, without a road-level advisory behind it. The dated calendar above is the sourced layer.
Worth knowing
- Persistent monsoon waterlogging at six named points including the railway flyover approaches and the Manjri Khurd submersible bridge (Punekar News, 6 July 2026)
- The submersible bridge is a river crossing that is designed to go under - plan around it, not through it
- Manjari/Manterwadi Phata is a heavy-vehicle restriction point during Ashadhi Wari, which polices the area's only main access to Solapur Road
- Crematorium on the Mula-Mutha bank, which is also one of the flooding points
- No laundry, gym, yoga studio, arts venue or cinema found inside the area - errands mean a trip to Hadapsar
- Goods traffic on the Pune-Daund railway line and at the flyover approaches
The decibel calculator— how loud does it actually get here?
Estimated at a Manjri home · Aug–Sep
80–95 dB
Like a loud procession passing — you'll pause conversations near windows.
Pune's defining ten days — mandal loudspeakers, dhol-tasha pathaks and immersion processions converging on Laxmi Road and the river ghats; MPCB monitoring has repeatedly logged readings above 100 dB along the procession corridors.
Modelled estimate (noise-v1.0) from this area's festival calendar and quietness, anchored to MPCB Ganeshotsav monitoring. Laxmi Road procession corridors have repeatedly measured above 100 dB during visarjan. Not a measurement at your window — but an honest basis for the decision.

On the ground
Traffic and infrastructure
Manjri is reached off Solapur Road at Manterwadi/Manjari Phata and then along the Hadapsar-Manjri Road, and the pinch points are structural rather than volume-driven: the approaches to the Manjari Budruk railway flyover over the Pune-Daund line, the Mahadevnagar-Manjari Budruk Road, and the Manjari Khurd submersible bridge, which is exactly what its name says it is. Punekar News (6 July 2026) lists all three, plus the PMC School junction at Gopalpatti and the Rangicha Odha crossing, as places that waterlog and stop moving in monsoon. In the dry months this is one of the easier eastern commutes - the queues are at the Solapur Road end, not inside Manjri.
- Roads
- Hadapsar-Manjri Road is the connector, with the Mahadevnagar-Manjari Budruk Road serving the interior and the Manjri Khurd submersible bridge crossing the river. Manjari Budruk came into PMC on 30 June 2021; the road hierarchy is still a village one.
- Water
- PMC supply since the 2021 merger, under the city-wide alternate-day regime. No Manjri-specific supply reporting was found, which for a 2021-merged village is a gap worth flagging rather than reassurance.
- Power
- MSEDCL. Nothing Manjri-specific established.
- Drainage & monsoon
- Well documented and bad. Punekar News (6 July 2026) names, in Manjri alone, the Mahadevnagar-Manjari Budruk Road, the PMC School junction at Gopalpatti, the approaches to the Manjari Budruk railway flyover, Rangicha Odha, the crematorium near the Mula-Mutha and the Manjri Khurd submersible bridge as persistent waterlogging points, with residents asking PMC to move beyond dewatering to a real stormwater network. Manjri sits on the Mula-Mutha and the submersible bridge does what its name says.
Getting around
Public transport and last mile
- Metro
- None, and none planned through Manjri. The approved Swargate-Hadapsar corridor stops at Hadapsar; the Aqua Line extension runs north of the river to Wagholi. Nearest operating station is Ramwadi via Kharadi.
- Rail
- The Pune-Daund line runs through Manjri - the Manjari Budruk railway flyover is a local landmark and a local bottleneck - but there is no station here. The nearest usable one is Hadapsar, which does take MEMU and DEMU services.
- Bus
- PMPML feeds in off Solapur Road at Manterwadi/Manjari Phata and along the Hadapsar-Manjri Road. Thin by city standards.
- Last mile
- Rickshaws at the Phata and around the gaothan. Inside Manjri Budruk and Manjri Khurd it is a village layout with new societies dropped into it; two-wheeler.

What it costs in Pune
- part-time cleaning (jhadu-pocha)₹4.5k – ₹10k / month
MyBuddyMaid's Pune page quotes INR 4,500-9,000/month for a part-time maid, defined as '1-4 hours a day - sweeping-mopping, utensils, dusting and laundry on a fixed daily slot'. Broomees, which operates in Pune, quotes INR 6,000-10,000/month for part-time maids across its service cities. MyBuddyMaid explicitly labels its numbers 'indicative monthly bands, not quotes' and publishes identical bands for every city, so they carry no Pune-specific signal.
Moves with: Hours per day, days per week, tasks included, household and home size, locality.
- cook, one meal₹10k – ₹18k / month
IMPORTANT - not split by number of meals. MyBuddyMaid's Pune page quotes INR 10,000-18,000/month for a cook covering 'one or more daily meal slots, matched to your cuisine and diet preferences'. No Pune-specific source separates a one-meal from a two-meal rate.
Moves with: Number of meal slots, cuisine, family size.
- full-time live-out₹12.5k – ₹26k / month
Broomees quotes INR 12,500-20,000/month for full-time maids across its cities including Pune. MyBuddyMaid's Pune page quotes INR 16,000-26,000/month for a full-time maid working '8-12 hours a day (or live-in) who handles all daily household chores' - its band does not separate live-out from live-in.
Moves with: Hours, task mix, household size, locality.
- nanny / childcare₹14k – ₹24k / month
MyBuddyMaid's Pune page quotes INR 14,000-24,000/month for 'trained childcare help for infants, toddlers and school-age children'. Band is not Pune-specific.
Moves with: Child's age, number of children, live-in vs live-out, training.
- elder care₹15k – ₹25k / month
MyBuddyMaid's Pune page quotes INR 15,000-25,000/month for 'non-medical companionship and daily assistance for senior citizens at home'. Band is not Pune-specific.
Moves with: Level of assistance, night duty, live-in vs live-out.
How people actually find someone
Broomees
Operates in Pune alongside Delhi NCR, Bangalore and Ranchi, placing all-rounders, cooks, babysitters, domestic help, elderly and patient care providers and 24-hour live-in workers. The household books online and Broomees sends vetted candidates; it states the salary 'is to be mutually discussed and directly managed between the customer and the helper' and that it takes no cut from the worker's salary.
Cost: INR 49 booking fee plus 18% GST (about INR 57.82), periodically waived for the all-rounder service, plus a monthly membership fee. Salary is paid directly to the worker.
MyBuddyMaid
Placement platform with a dedicated Pune city page and pincode-level service pages. One-time access fee for a verified candidate pool; the household interviews and agrees the salary with the helper after the interview.
Cost: One-time access charge: Silver INR 4,999, Gold INR 5,999, Diamond INR 6,999.
Helper4U
Pan-India placement marketplace for maids, cooks, nannies, caregivers and drivers, operating since 2016; households buy a hiring package to view profiles and interview candidates.
Cost: Tiered one-off hiring packages paid by the household; states no commission and no monthly fees on the worker's salary.
MyGate
Used by Pune societies for visitor management, resident communication and society accounting - 27,000+ communities and 5 million+ homes across 50+ cities. Daily help are normally admitted on a resident-issued gate code or pass.
Cost: Paid by the society.
In Manjri: Manjri Budruk and Manjri Khurd are still working villages with farm land at the edges - Manjari Farm is a locality name, not a metaphor. Domestic help, cooks and drivers are local and plentiful, and this is one of the cheaper ends of the eastern corridor to staff a household in. , our own read on the area, without a source behind it, unlike everything above.
What the law says
There is no legal minimum wage for domestic work here.
Domestic work is not a scheduled employment in this state, so nothing sets a floor. That makes what you pay a matter of conscience rather than compliance.
Police verification
Maharashtra's procedure applies: the household applies for a domestic help / servant verification at the nearest police station, submitting a passport-size photograph of the worker and a photo identity proof (Aadhaar, driving licence, ration card, voter ID or PAN). Guidance on the state procedure states it is advisory rather than compulsory, and that the resulting verification report has no fixed validity period - it lasts as long as whoever is relying on it accepts it. For a formal police clearance certificate, Maharashtra runs pcs.mahaonline.gov.in, a six-step flow (registration, login, application, fee payment, verification by the local police station, verification by the citizen facilitation centre) with a 24x7 helpline on 1800 120 8040. Unlike Mumbai Police, Pune City Police does not publish a dedicated online domestic-servant form that could be verified; its site is a JavaScript application whose forms section could not be read.
The official pageWorth knowing
- Pune has no legal wage floor for domestic work. The nearest honest benchmark is Maharashtra's general unskilled minimum wage, about INR 13,921/month Zone I from 1 January 2026 - a full-time live-out worker paid less than that is being paid below what the state considers the floor for unskilled work in any other sector.
- Registration with the Maharashtra Domestic Workers Welfare Board is the worker's own entitlement and is voluntary; the 2008 Act imposes no registration duty on employers and no employer contribution. A fair employer helps with the paperwork - and with free e-Shram registration - and deducts nothing for either.
- Pune's IT-corridor societies (Hinjewadi, Kharadi, Baner, Wakad) are largely gated with app-based entry, so a new worker cannot get in until the resident adds her at the gate. Check the society's rules on daily-help entry hours and lift access before you sign a lease, and refuse any rule that requires a worker to leave an original ID document at the gate.
- The ILO's 2017 employer survey covered Delhi and Mumbai, not Pune, but its finding on hiring channels is the best available guide to how this works anywhere in urban India: 51% of employer households found their worker through neighbours, 21% through other domestic workers already working nearby, and only 2% through a formal agency. Expect the same in Pune, and expect that a referral chain costs nothing - do not let anyone charge the incoming worker for an introduction.
- Written terms cost nothing and prevent most disputes: hours, tasks, the monthly amount, the pay date, paid leave, notice on both sides, and the festival bonus if you intend to give one. The ILO survey found written contracts rare, and that workers typically expected two to four days off a month with wage deduction for that leave already declining as a practice.
- The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013 covers domestic workers, with the route being the district Local Committee rather than an internal committee. Awareness among workers is close to zero - the Martha Farrell Foundation's 2018 study of 291 domestic workers found none had approached a Local Committee.

Cooks, househelp & staff. How it actually works
- 1
The society network hires first
Most cooks and househelps in a building already work in it. Ask the society office and your floor's neighbours before anything else — staff who are known to the building come with built-in references and realistic timings.
- 2
The watchman is the real directory
Security staff know who serves which flats, who has a free slot, and who is reliable. A polite word at the gate typically produces two or three introductions within days.
- 3
Agree the terms everyone uses
Monthly pay scales with tasks and building norms — ask two neighbours what the going rate is on your floor before negotiating. Standard practice: one paid day off a week, a Diwali bonus of one month's pay, and advance notice on leave both ways.
- 4
Do the verification properly
Police verification for domestic staff can be done through your city police's citizen portal — Mumbai and Delhi run it online; Bengaluru accepts forms at the local station. Most societies require it, and good staff expect it. Keep a copy of ID, and share your own references too; trust runs both ways.
