Living here
A Tuesday in Dhanori
Getting home
Coming in, you have usually already paid your toll at Vishrantwadi chowk, and after that it is Porwal Road or Dhanori Road and a turn you will miss the first three times you try it. Tumbledry sits on the first floor at Atlantis City, which is how half the directions here get given. The lake is a walking loop rather than a view.
Your street
Inside, it is 2010s society grid: matching gates, cars parked both sides, a chemist and a general store where a developer happened to leave a shop line and nothing at all where one did not. Evenings belong to the turf at DN Parande and the badminton courts, and to the lake loop at dusk. Pleasant enough, and not walkable the way the old city is.
How the week goes
Peak hours here get measured oddly. PMC's own standing committee put thirty to forty-five minutes on journeys along Dhanori Road, Porwal Road and through Munjaba Vasti, Kalwad and Khese Park, and those are trips inside the area, not commutes. Sundays the roads relax and the aircraft do not. In mid-July the Alandi Road junctions and Kalas Phata close for the palkhi on the northern shoulder.
What you'd put up with
Ask about a road that does not exist. The Development Plan road between 509 Chowk and Jakat Naka has been unbuilt for thirty years, with land acquisition stuck because owners want cash rather than TDR, so the network dead-ends where the map promises a through route. The Dhanori-Lohegaon main road went under water again on 6 July 2026. Parts of both main roads still run on tankers.
Written from the same researched record as the rest of this page. Every place named here is one we hold a source for. Where we had nothing to say about a corner, we left it out rather than filling it in.

Zone: Dhanori, zone 26/410 (Balance Properties Area). Two republishers of the Mumbai tables differ by a consistent 15%. We could not verify either against the IGR original, so treat these as indicative of the zone, not as your flat's valuation. Look up your own zone at IGR Maharashtra.
Rent against price
Nothing in Dhanori is listed for sale right now, so there is no price to read the rent against.
The vibe
Life in Dhanori
Dhanori is where a lot of Pune's middle quietly lives: a grid of 2010s societies off Dhanori Road and Porwal Road, a lake that is more a walking loop than a beauty spot, and Kalas running into it on the southern side. Rents sit comfortably below Viman Nagar for flats that are often newer and larger, which is the whole pitch, and the airport is close enough to be genuinely useful. The catch is that Dhanori has exactly two ways out, both of them narrow, and the Porwal Road–Lohegaon stretch has been a construction site on and off for years. Aircraft noise is real on the approach side, retail is scattered rather than concentrated, and nothing here is walkable in the way the old city is.

The calendar
Festivals, crowds and what to expect
No traffic advisory we have read names Dhanori for a festival. That does not mean the year is quiet here. It means the disruption has not been big enough to reach a published advisory, which is a useful thing to know but not the same as silence.
Also noted locally in Dhanori
Ganesh Chaturthi
Aug–Sep, 10 daysGaneshotsav is the festival with a documented police footprint next to Dhanori: the visarjan advisory is written for Yerwada and Vishrantwadi, and Wikipedia's Vishrantwadi entry treats Dhanori as one of the areas Vishrantwadi encompasses, so the Gunjan–Parnakuti–Tarakeshwar route to the Chima ghat on Nagar Road and the Shadal Baba to Tarakeshwar regulation are what Dhanori's traffic runs into on immersion day (Punekar News, 5 September 2025).
Ashadhi Wari
Jun–Jul, palkhi fortnightAshadhi Wari closes the Alandi Road junctions and Kalas Phata on Dhanori's northern shoulder between 11 and 18 July (PuneNow, Ashadhi Wari Palkhi 2026 advisory), which matters because Kalas adjoins Dhanori and Alandi Road is the way out of it.
Area-level colour from our own research, without a road-level advisory behind it. The dated calendar above is the sourced layer.
Worth knowing
- The Dhanori–Lohegaon main road floods in heavy rain, most recently on 6 July 2026 — a recurring rather than freak event
- Water tankers: parts of Dhanori Road and Porwal Road still run on private tankers rather than regular PMC supply
- A Development Plan road left unbuilt for thirty years between 509 Chowk and Jakat Naka, so the internal network dead-ends where the map says it should not
- Everything out of the area funnels through Vishrantwadi chowk, a construction site until at least end-2026
- Airport flight path — Lohegaon adjoins Dhanori on the east
- Construction dust and truck movement: PMC's own standing committee has asked for a freeze on new approvals because the building is outrunning the services
The decibel calculator— how loud does it actually get here?
Estimated at a Dhanori home · Aug–Sep
70–85 dB
Like heavy arterial traffic — noticeable, part of the background.
Pune's defining ten days — mandal loudspeakers, dhol-tasha pathaks and immersion processions converging on Laxmi Road and the river ghats; MPCB monitoring has repeatedly logged readings above 100 dB along the procession corridors.
Modelled estimate (noise-v1.0) from this area's festival calendar and quietness, anchored to MPCB Ganeshotsav monitoring. Laxmi Road procession corridors have repeatedly measured above 100 dB during visarjan. Not a measurement at your window — but an honest basis for the decision.

On the ground
Traffic and infrastructure
Dhanori's problem is that its roads were never finished. The Development Plan road between 509 Chowk and Jakat Naka has been incomplete for thirty years, and PMC's own standing committee member Suhas Tingre put peak-hour journeys on Dhanori Road, Porwal Road and through Munjaba Vasti, Kalwad and Khese Park at 30 to 45 minutes, with the city engineer blaming land acquisition — owners wanting cash rather than TDR (Pune Pulse, 5 August 2026; Punekar News, 2 August 2026). Everything then has to funnel out through Vishrantwadi chowk, which is itself a flyover and grade-separator site until end-2026. The Dhanori–Lohegaon main road went under water again after heavy rain on 6 July 2026, with residents blaming uncleaned drains and missing stormwater capacity (Pune Pulse, 6 July 2026) — that stretch is the one to check before signing anything.
- Roads
- PMC, and this is the area's defining grievance. The Development Plan road between 509 Chowk and Jakat Naka has been incomplete for thirty years; standing committee member Suhas Vijay Tingre asked PMC in August 2026 why it had not completed a single DP road here in three decades, and demanded a freeze on new residential and commercial permissions until the infrastructure catches up. City engineer Aniruddha Pawaskar attributed the delay to land acquisition, with most owners wanting cash compensation rather than the alternatives (Punekar News, 2 August 2026; Pune Pulse, 5 August 2026). Congestion is named on Dhanori Road, Porwal Road and through Munjaba Vasti, Kalwad and Khese Park.
- Water
- PMC supply, but with a tanker fallback that is still real: the August 2026 reporting says residents on Dhanori Road and Porwal Road 'continue to rely on private water tankers because of the lack of a regular municipal water supply' (Punekar News, 2 August 2026). Dhanori was also inside the revised Nagar Road schedule that PMC introduced and withdrew within a week in August 2025 (Punekar News, 7 August 2025). Assume storage and verify the building's actual source.
- Power
- MSEDCL distribution. No area-specific outage record was established.
- Drainage & monsoon
- Poor and repeatedly documented. The Dhanori–Lohegaon main road was submerged after heavy rain on 6 July 2026, with residents saying they have raised waterlogging complaints for several years and drains were not cleaned before the monsoon (Pune Pulse, 6 July 2026). Residents of Kalwad Wasti have separately alleged slow PMC work on water and sewage restoration. PMC's 2026-27 budget allocates Rs 323.76 crore to AMRUT 2.0 sewerage across the merged villages and plans 100 km of new sewer line city-wide (The Bridge Chronicle, 10 March 2026), but none of that is in the ground here yet.
Getting around
Public transport and last mile
- Metro
- None, and none planned inside Dhanori on any line that is open or under construction. The nearest operating station is Yerwada on the Aqua Line, roughly 5 km south, reached through the Vishrantwadi junction (Wikipedia, Aqua Line (Pune Metro)).
- Rail
- Pune Junction is about 8 km away by road. It is not a commuter option.
- Bus
- PMPML on Alandi Road and the Dhanori and Porwal Road grid. The Alandi Road BRT corridor from Vishrantwadi Chowk to Phulenagar is being removed as of July 2026 (Punekar News, 3 July 2026), so the bus priority Dhanori had access to is going away.
- Last mile
- Two-wheeler, overwhelmingly. Porwal Road and the internal lanes off Dhanori Road are not rickshaw-rich, and PMC's own standing committee puts peak-hour journeys within the area at 30 to 45 minutes (Pune Pulse, 5 August 2026).

Staff, deliveries and everyday life
What it costs in Pune
- part-time cleaning (jhadu-pocha)₹4.5k – ₹10k / month
MyBuddyMaid's Pune page quotes INR 4,500-9,000/month for a part-time maid, defined as '1-4 hours a day - sweeping-mopping, utensils, dusting and laundry on a fixed daily slot'. Broomees, which operates in Pune, quotes INR 6,000-10,000/month for part-time maids across its service cities. MyBuddyMaid explicitly labels its numbers 'indicative monthly bands, not quotes' and publishes identical bands for every city, so they carry no Pune-specific signal.
Moves with: Hours per day, days per week, tasks included, household and home size, locality.
- cook, one meal₹10k – ₹18k / month
IMPORTANT - not split by number of meals. MyBuddyMaid's Pune page quotes INR 10,000-18,000/month for a cook covering 'one or more daily meal slots, matched to your cuisine and diet preferences'. No Pune-specific source separates a one-meal from a two-meal rate.
Moves with: Number of meal slots, cuisine, family size.
- full-time live-out₹12.5k – ₹26k / month
Broomees quotes INR 12,500-20,000/month for full-time maids across its cities including Pune. MyBuddyMaid's Pune page quotes INR 16,000-26,000/month for a full-time maid working '8-12 hours a day (or live-in) who handles all daily household chores' - its band does not separate live-out from live-in.
Moves with: Hours, task mix, household size, locality.
- nanny / childcare₹14k – ₹24k / month
MyBuddyMaid's Pune page quotes INR 14,000-24,000/month for 'trained childcare help for infants, toddlers and school-age children'. Band is not Pune-specific.
Moves with: Child's age, number of children, live-in vs live-out, training.
- elder care₹15k – ₹25k / month
MyBuddyMaid's Pune page quotes INR 15,000-25,000/month for 'non-medical companionship and daily assistance for senior citizens at home'. Band is not Pune-specific.
Moves with: Level of assistance, night duty, live-in vs live-out.
How people actually find someone
Broomees
Operates in Pune alongside Delhi NCR, Bangalore and Ranchi, placing all-rounders, cooks, babysitters, domestic help, elderly and patient care providers and 24-hour live-in workers. The household books online and Broomees sends vetted candidates; it states the salary 'is to be mutually discussed and directly managed between the customer and the helper' and that it takes no cut from the worker's salary.
Cost: INR 49 booking fee plus 18% GST (about INR 57.82), periodically waived for the all-rounder service, plus a monthly membership fee. Salary is paid directly to the worker.
MyBuddyMaid
Placement platform with a dedicated Pune city page and pincode-level service pages. One-time access fee for a verified candidate pool; the household interviews and agrees the salary with the helper after the interview.
Cost: One-time access charge: Silver INR 4,999, Gold INR 5,999, Diamond INR 6,999.
Helper4U
Pan-India placement marketplace for maids, cooks, nannies, caregivers and drivers, operating since 2016; households buy a hiring package to view profiles and interview candidates.
Cost: Tiered one-off hiring packages paid by the household; states no commission and no monthly fees on the worker's salary.
MyGate
Used by Pune societies for visitor management, resident communication and society accounting - 27,000+ communities and 5 million+ homes across 50+ cities. Daily help are normally admitted on a resident-issued gate code or pass.
Cost: Paid by the society.
In Dhanori: Dhanori grew as residential expansion behind an older settlement pattern, and Munjaba Vasti, Kalwad and Kalas are adjacent to the new towers — the vastis named in PMC's own congestion reporting are the same places the help lives. Supply is close and plentiful. No wage data was sourced and none is asserted. , our own read on the area, without a source behind it, unlike everything above.
What the law says
There is no legal minimum wage for domestic work here.
Domestic work is not a scheduled employment in this state, so nothing sets a floor. That makes what you pay a matter of conscience rather than compliance.
Police verification
Maharashtra's procedure applies: the household applies for a domestic help / servant verification at the nearest police station, submitting a passport-size photograph of the worker and a photo identity proof (Aadhaar, driving licence, ration card, voter ID or PAN). Guidance on the state procedure states it is advisory rather than compulsory, and that the resulting verification report has no fixed validity period - it lasts as long as whoever is relying on it accepts it. For a formal police clearance certificate, Maharashtra runs pcs.mahaonline.gov.in, a six-step flow (registration, login, application, fee payment, verification by the local police station, verification by the citizen facilitation centre) with a 24x7 helpline on 1800 120 8040. Unlike Mumbai Police, Pune City Police does not publish a dedicated online domestic-servant form that could be verified; its site is a JavaScript application whose forms section could not be read.
The official pageWorth knowing
- Pune has no legal wage floor for domestic work. The nearest honest benchmark is Maharashtra's general unskilled minimum wage, about INR 13,921/month Zone I from 1 January 2026 - a full-time live-out worker paid less than that is being paid below what the state considers the floor for unskilled work in any other sector.
- Registration with the Maharashtra Domestic Workers Welfare Board is the worker's own entitlement and is voluntary; the 2008 Act imposes no registration duty on employers and no employer contribution. A fair employer helps with the paperwork - and with free e-Shram registration - and deducts nothing for either.
- Pune's IT-corridor societies (Hinjewadi, Kharadi, Baner, Wakad) are largely gated with app-based entry, so a new worker cannot get in until the resident adds her at the gate. Check the society's rules on daily-help entry hours and lift access before you sign a lease, and refuse any rule that requires a worker to leave an original ID document at the gate.
- The ILO's 2017 employer survey covered Delhi and Mumbai, not Pune, but its finding on hiring channels is the best available guide to how this works anywhere in urban India: 51% of employer households found their worker through neighbours, 21% through other domestic workers already working nearby, and only 2% through a formal agency. Expect the same in Pune, and expect that a referral chain costs nothing - do not let anyone charge the incoming worker for an introduction.
- Written terms cost nothing and prevent most disputes: hours, tasks, the monthly amount, the pay date, paid leave, notice on both sides, and the festival bonus if you intend to give one. The ILO survey found written contracts rare, and that workers typically expected two to four days off a month with wage deduction for that leave already declining as a practice.
- The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013 covers domestic workers, with the route being the district Local Committee rather than an internal committee. Awareness among workers is close to zero - the Martha Farrell Foundation's 2018 study of 291 domestic workers found none had approached a Local Committee.

Everyday, in Dhanori
- Six named chemists including a MedPlus, and a Tumbledry with stated hours on Porwal Road
- The strongest sports supply in this slice — badminton, box cricket, cricket nets and pickleball all bookable inside the area, plus a PMC sports complex
- Three named gyms and one power-yoga studio
- No cinema and no arts venue inside the area
- Grocery is thin in the directories relative to the population, and the two supermarkets found both sit on the disputed Dhanori/Vishrantwadi line

When the streets fill up
Ganeshotsav is the festival with a documented police footprint next to Dhanori: the visarjan advisory is written for Yerwada and Vishrantwadi, and Wikipedia's Vishrantwadi entry treats Dhanori as one of the areas Vishrantwadi encompasses, so the Gunjan–Parnakuti–Tarakeshwar route to the Chima ghat on Nagar Road and the Shadal Baba to Tarakeshwar regulation are what Dhanori's traffic runs into on immersion day (Punekar News, 5 September 2025). No immersion point or procession route inside Dhanori itself is named in that advisory and none was found, so that part is a recorded gap rather than a claim. Ashadhi Wari closes the Alandi Road junctions and Kalas Phata on Dhanori's northern shoulder between 11 and 18 July (PuneNow, Ashadhi Wari Palkhi 2026 advisory), which matters because Kalas adjoins Dhanori and Alandi Road is the way out of it.

Cooks, househelp & staff. How it actually works
- 1
The society network hires first
Most cooks and househelps in a building already work in it. Ask the society office and your floor's neighbours before anything else — staff who are known to the building come with built-in references and realistic timings.
- 2
The watchman is the real directory
Security staff know who serves which flats, who has a free slot, and who is reliable. A polite word at the gate typically produces two or three introductions within days.
- 3
Agree the terms everyone uses
Monthly pay scales with tasks and building norms — ask two neighbours what the going rate is on your floor before negotiating. Standard practice: one paid day off a week, a Diwali bonus of one month's pay, and advance notice on leave both ways.
- 4
Do the verification properly
Police verification for domestic staff can be done through your city police's citizen portal — Mumbai and Delhi run it online; Bengaluru accepts forms at the local station. Most societies require it, and good staff expect it. Keep a copy of ID, and share your own references too; trust runs both ways.

The Dhanori–Lohegaon main road went under water again after heavy rain on 6 July 2026, with residents blaming uncleaned drains and missing stormwater capacity (Pune Pulse, 6 July 2026) — that stretch is the one to check before signing anything.
Day to day
- The Dhanori–Lohegaon main road floods in heavy rain, most recently on 6 July 2026 — a recurring rather than freak event
Water, power and roads
- Drainage
