The honest traffic read
Yerawada's traffic is Nagar Road's traffic, and Nagar Road is currently a building site. PMC is putting a 750 m six-lane grade separator from the Aga Khan Palace to Gunjan Chowk and a 700 m four-lane flyover from the palace to Golf Chowk through Shastrinagar Chowk, with a March 2027 deadline set by the municipal commissioner (Punekar News, 13 August 2026); a drain alongside the site had to be partly diverted before excavation could start, and the traffic department has been running diversions between Shastrinagar Chowk and Golf Club Chowk since (The Bridge Chronicle, 1 March 2025). Until it is done, the morning flow from Kalyani Nagar and Kharadi towards the Yerawada (Fitzgerald) bridge and the evening reverse both queue at Shastrinagar and Golf Club chowks, and the bridge itself is the only crossing of the Mula-Mutha here. The Aqua Line overhead takes some of the office load off the same corridor but not the two-wheelers.
When the streets fill up
Ganeshotsav is the festival that shuts Yerawada down. More than 103 mandals process here, along Gunjan Chowk, Parnakuti Chowk and Tarakeshwar Chowk to the Chima immersion ghat on the Pune–Nagar Road, with the whole stretch between Shadal Baba Chowk and Tarakeshwar Chowk put under traffic regulation and through-traffic pushed onto Ambedkar Chowk – Golf Club Chowk – Shastrinagar Chowk (Punekar News, Pune police visarjan advisory for Yerwada and Vishrantwadi, 5 September 2025); on visarjan day the Nagar Road side of Yerawada is effectively unusable by car. Ashadhi Wari in July closes junctions along Alandi Road and at Kalas Phata immediately north of here between 11 and 18 July, while the palkhi's own Pune halt is across the river in Nana Peth and Bhavani Peth (PuneNow, Ashadhi Wari Palkhi 2026 traffic advisory) — so what Yerawada gets from the Wari is the closure to its north, not the procession itself.
