The honest traffic read
University Road/Ganeshkhind Road is the pain point: elevated Metro Line 3 (Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar) construction has squeezed lanes from Sancheti Chowk past COEP and Pune University Chowk, and peak-hour crawls are routine. The district court, Collector's office and RTO cluster pulls heavy daytime traffic, and Wakdewadi on the Old Mumbai-Pune highway backs up toward the river. JM Road flows better but chokes on weekend evenings.
When the streets fill up
Ganeshotsav dominates: Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati sits barely 1.5 km away in Budhwar Peth, and for ten days JM Road and the river bridges carry darshan crowds and mandal processions, with immersion-day closures near Sambhaji bridge. In June-July the Sant Tukaram and Dnyaneshwar Palkhis enter the city through Shivajinagar along the old highway, shutting roads for a day each. Gudhi Padwa and Diwali bring shobha-yatra and shopping crowds to JM Road.
