The honest traffic read
Sadashiv Peth was laid out before cars and still behaves that way: Tilak Road and Bajirao Road carry the through traffic, and everything between them is a lane grid of wadas and two-wheelers where a single parked car halves the carriageway. The pinch points are the S. P. College junction and Perugate on Tilak Road, and the Kelkar Road and Laxmi Road ends where the peth meets the shopping streets. The peaks are not the usual office ones — they are the school and tuition-class turnovers around 7.30 am, 12.30 pm and 5–8 pm, when the classes on and behind Tilak Road empty at once. Parking, not throughput, is the daily complaint: Punekar News reported traffic congestion and parking shortage as the neighbourhood's headline grievances during municipal election canvassing in January 2026.
When the streets fill up
Ganeshotsav is the defining disruption and Tilak Road is one of the city's main immersion procession routes — Punekar News reported in July 2025 that the Tilak Road visarjan route would be streamlined with volunteer support, and in September 2026 that heavy vehicles were barred on twelve Pune stretches and seventeen roads closed for the day. On immersion day the peth is effectively sealed to vehicles from mid-afternoon until the following morning. Ganesh Chaturthi itself brings the mandal pandals into the lanes for ten days, narrowing already narrow streets. Diwali and Dasara move the crush one block over to Laxmi Road and Kelkar Road, where the shopping traffic backs into the peth's residential lanes; Gudi Padwa brings the shobha yatra through Tilak Road as well.
