The honest traffic read
Sewri splits into industrial Sewri East, with port and petrochemical traffic, and residential Sewri West around Sewri Naka market, so heavy vehicles and local shopping traffic share the same few roads. Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road starts here and absorbs most of the through movement. The area is a live construction site for the Sewri to Worli elevated connector, which involves dismantling a 112-year-old bridge over working rail lines, and until it opens the Atal Setu traffic feeding into Sewri makes the approach roads unpredictable.
When the streets fill up
Ganeshotsav is the biggest event in Sewri's calendar, anchored by the Shivdi cha Raja mandal, which pulls crowds into the Sewri Naka lanes for the festival fortnight. Because Sewri is a designated diversion route during the Lalbaug and Parel processions, traffic pushed off Dr E Moses Road lands on R.A. Kidwai Marg here, so the area congests even when its own celebrations are modest. Outside festival season the seasonal draw is different: flamingo watchers at the mudflats from October to March.
