The honest traffic read
Parel's traffic is shaped by hospitals and the mill-land office belt: the KEM, Tata and Wadia cluster on Dr E Borges Road generates constant ambulance, rickshaw and pedestrian movement, while Dr Ambedkar Road and the Parel flyover carry through traffic past Hindmata and Lalbaug Market. Chinchpokli Naka and the Lalbaug Market junction are the reliable choke points, and Hindmata is one of the city's best-known monsoon waterlogging spots.
When the streets fill up
Ganeshotsav effectively shuts this neighbourhood down. Lalbaugcha Raja sits minutes from Parel station, and for eleven days the queue lines and mandal traffic take over Lalbaug Market, Chinchpokli Naka and the roads off Dr Ambedkar Road. Traffic police push vehicles toward Byculla or Sewri and enforce no-parking on both sides of the arrival and immersion routes, keeping one lane free for ambulances. Arrival day and immersion day are the worst: plan to walk.
