The honest traffic read
Mulund East is squeezed between the railway and the Eastern Express Highway, so almost all traffic funnels onto V.B. Phadke Road, Mithaghar Road and Lokmanya Tilak Road, with Hanuman Chowk the worst pinch point through the day. The station road bridge is the only quick link to Mulund West and backs up badly at both peaks, while the Airoli bridge road carries heavy Navi Mumbai commuter and goods traffic that spills back onto local roads. Narrow shop-lined lanes around Gavanpada are further slowed by double-parking and the fish market crowd.
When the streets fill up
Ganeshotsav dominates: this is a strongly Marathi neighbourhood with numerous household and mandal installations around Gavanpada, Navghar and Mithaghar Road, and immersion processions shut sections of L.T. Road and the Gavanpada stretch while queues build at the artificial ponds. Navratri garba runs nine nights at the Sambhaji ground and school grounds off Vidyalaya Marg, keeping V.B. Phadke Road busy past midnight. Gudi Padwa shobha yatras also close the Hanuman Chowk junction for hours.
