The honest traffic read
The pinch point is Saat Rasta, where seven roads meet just north of Mahalaxmi station, and the whole pocket is currently a construction zone: the BMC is building a 639m rail over bridge on Dr E Moses Road and an 803m cable-stayed bridge to Keshavrao Khadye Marg, targeted for end-2026. Until then the approaches to the century-old Mahalaxmi ROB carry restricted loads and back up badly. Southbound traffic funnelling toward Haji Ali and the Coastal Road keeps Keshavrao Khadye Marg slow through both peaks.
When the streets fill up
Navratri is the loudest week: the Mahalakshmi Temple draws queues that spill onto the approach lanes and swallow parking around the temple pocket. During Ganeshotsav, traffic police divert Dr E Moses Road toward Byculla and Sewri to clear idol-arrival routes, so the Mahalaxmi to Lalbaug axis is effectively unusable on arrival and immersion days. In November the racecourse hosts an art fair, adding a short burst of event traffic.
