The honest traffic read
Grant Road splits sharply either side of the station. The east side is Lamington Road, Mumbai's electronics market, where handcarts and double-parked vans keep the road at a crawl most of the day; the west side runs to Nana Chowk and Bhaji Gully, a street vegetable market that spills into the carriageway. The station bridge and Nana Chowk are the two reliable bottlenecks, and autos are scarce this far south.
When the streets fill up
Khetwadi's thirteen lanes sit immediately behind the station and host some of the city's most-visited Ganesh pandals, including Khetwadi cha Raja, which pulls darshan queues through the lanes for all ten days and effectively closes them to vehicles. Immersion processions from Khetwadi and Nana Chowk head to Girgaon Chowpatty, choking the whole Grant Road to V.P. Road corridor on Anant Chaturdashi. Muharram processions are the other recurring disruption.
