Life in HITEC City

3 homes · 11 places

HITEC City is less a neighbourhood than the engine room the west was built around, and living inside it means the shortest commute in Indian tech: Cyber Towers, Mindspace and the Blue Line's last stations at your door. Evenings belong to Inorbit and the lakefront at Durgam Cheruvu; weekends are for leaving.

    Roads close
14 Sep 2026 – 25 Sep 2026in 2 weeks· set by the Hindu calendar, so it moves each year

Why this affects this area: Named as the diversion destination for Kukatpally traffic displaced off IDL Tank Road.

Runs late. Sourced reports describe activity continuing into the night.

Dates for Hindu festivals come from the panchang and move by weeks each year; Islamic dates are confirmed by a moon sighting the evening before and can move a day. We hold checked dates through 2027 and show nothing where we do not have one.

What it costs in Hyderabad

We have no rates for Hyderabad.

Not a survey, not a news report, not a platform price list. Rather than borrow another city’s numbers and present them as local, we show none. What we do have for Hyderabad. The legal position, how people find help, and the verification process — is below and is solid.

How people actually find someone

  • Urban Company

Urban Company operates in Hyderabad and offers app-booked home cleaning, including recurring weekly, monthly and daily cleaning bundles. Its hourly Insta Help service (renamed from 'Insta Maids' in March 2025 after criticism) was piloted in Mumbai; whether it has reached Hyderabad could not be confirmed. This is a service booking, not a placement - the worker remains a platform partner, not the household's employee.

Cost: Priced per service or per hour in the app; Hyderabad prices could not be retrieved. At the Insta Help launch the introductory customer price was INR 49/hour (down from INR 245/hour), with the company stating partners are paid INR 150-180/hour.

  • EzyHelpers

Runs a Hyderabad city page placing maids, nannies, elderly-care helpers and drivers, and states placement typically takes 24-72 hours. It publishes no Hyderabad rates or fees; both are quoted on enquiry.

Cost: Not published for Hyderabad. Its Bengaluru guide quotes INR 25,000 plus taxes for a live-in placement, which may not apply here.

  • Helper4U

Pan-India placement marketplace for maids, cooks, nannies, caregivers and drivers; the household buys a hiring package to view profiles and interview candidates and then agrees the salary directly.

Cost: Tiered one-off hiring packages paid by the household; states no commission on the worker's salary.

  • MyGate

Used across Hyderabad gated communities for visitor management and society administration - 27,000+ communities and 5 million+ homes across 50+ cities. Daily help enter on a resident-issued code or pass. In the Malkajgiri commissionerate area, police have been enrolling exactly this population of staff through resident welfare associations.

    Cost: Paid by the society.

  • Gruhakarmikula Union Telangana State (GUTS) and National Platform of Domestic Workers (NPDW)

Not a hiring channel, but the organised voice of the sector in Telangana. On International Domestic Workers Day in June 2026 they submitted a memorandum to the Telangana Labour Ministry demanding legal recognition of domestic workers as workers, mandatory registration of workers, employers and placement agencies, a Domestic Workers Welfare Board, ESI and PF inclusion, minimum wage enforcement with periodic revision, grievance redress for wage theft and harassment, identity cards, and a tripartite committee to draft legislation. They put the number of domestic workers in Telangana at over 11 lakh.

In HITEC City: Mostly commercial; domestic help commutes in from adjoining Madhapur/Izzathnagar settlements, so timing depends on traffic , our own read on the area, without a source behind it, unlike everything above.

What the law says

There is a legal minimum wage for domestic work here.

Domestic work is a scheduled employment in this state, so a notified rate applies and paying below it is unlawful.

Police verification

Two separate things exist and they are often confused. (1) Telangana Police's i-Verify portal at pvc.tspolice.gov.in issues Police Verification Certificates and Police Clearance Certificates online, with online fee payment replacing the old treasury challan and online status tracking. It was launched in April 2021 and is aimed at government and PSU employee verification and at individuals going abroad for study, work or immigration; domestic-help employers are not named as an eligible category. (2) For domestic staff specifically, Hyderabad-area commissionerates run enrolment drives. The Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate launched 'Mee Suraksha' on 16 May 2026 across roughly 550 colonies, gated communities and apartment complexes, collecting details of domestic helpers, cooks, drivers, servants, maids, caretakers, watchmen and other support staff digitally through the Hawkeye Ultra app and Google self-registration forms, with police teams also enrolling on site in coordination with resident welfare associations. Commissioner B Sumathi described it as a 20-day campaign and 'urged residents to cooperate'. Reporting describes it as voluntary. In its first weeks 18,413 people were registered (Malkajgiri 8,771, Uppal 4,837, LB Nagar 4,805).

The official page

Worth knowing

  • Hyderabad is the weakest city in this dataset for wage data. No Hyderabad-specific rate from any credible source could be found - not a survey, not a news report, not even a platform pricing page. Rather than publish numbers borrowed from Bengaluru or Mumbai, this dataset returns none. Anyone shipping wage guidance for Hyderabad should commission or source it locally first.
  • Telangana has no domestic workers welfare board. That is precisely what unions were demanding in June 2026, alongside registration of workers, employers and placement agencies, ESI and PF inclusion and minimum wage enforcement, on behalf of an estimated 11 lakh domestic workers in the state.
  • The 'Mee Suraksha' drive is a police crime-prevention database, not a worker-protection measure: reporting frames it as a response to crimes involving domestic helpers. A household participating in it should be clear that registering someone gives the worker nothing in return. The corresponding thing that does benefit the worker - free e-Shram registration, which is the gateway to unorganised-sector welfare schemes - costs nothing and is worth doing at the same time.
  • Mee Suraksha registration data included 975 Nepali nationals among 18,413 registrations in the Malkajgiri area. Migrant domestic workers, including cross-border migrants, are among the most vulnerable to document confiscation and confinement. Holding a worker's passport, Aadhaar or other original documents, or restricting her ability to leave the house, is not a security precaution - it is the mechanism of forced labour, and it is unlawful.
  • Because Telangana does have domestic work in its schedule of employments, a Hyderabad employer is in principle bound by a notified minimum wage, unlike an employer in Mumbai, Pune or Delhi. Until the current notified figure is confirmed, the defensible course is to pay at least the pro-rated equivalent of Telangana's general unskilled minimum wage, reported at about INR 16,000 a month Zone I from 1 June 2026.
  • Check the society's gate rules before signing a lease. Hyderabad gated communities in the Malkajgiri, Uppal and LB Nagar zones have been actively enrolling staff through resident welfare associations, and some societies make app registration a condition of entry for daily help.

Researched 2026-09. Rates and rules both move; check the official page before you rely on the process, and treat the ranges as a shape rather than a quote.

Everyday, in HITEC City

  • Almost fully commercial — daily-needs shopping happens across the border in Madhapur or Kondapur
  • Inorbit Mall on the Mindspace side covers groceries, food and weekend errands
  • Quick-commerce (Blinkit/Zepto/Instamart) coverage is strong across the corridor

The honest traffic read

Cyber Towers junction and the Shilparamam stretch of Hitech City Main Road are the choke points, jamming 9-11am and 6-9pm on weekdays as Mindspace and Cyber Towers offices empty out. The Hitec City flyover network helps through-traffic, but interior access roads to Mindspace and Inorbit back up badly in the evening peak. Weekends are noticeably lighter except around Inorbit Mall.

When the streets fill up

Shilparamam hosts large crafts melas (including the All India Arts & Crafts Mela) around year-end, drawing crowds to the Shilparamam junction for weeks. Ganesh Chaturthi (Aug-Sep) brings pandals on interior lanes and slow-moving immersion processions on the final days — the big convoys head toward Tank Bund/Hussain Sagar and clog arterial roads city-wide. Bathukamma evenings (Sep-Oct, Navratri week) see community gatherings that spill onto side streets.

Hyderabad's civic layer runs through colony RWAs and the GHMC's ward system, federated city-wide by bodies like UFERWAS. The RWA office — every colony and gated community has one — handles gate norms, staff verification and the streets' actual conversation; ask the association office or your landlord for the current secretary's contact.

Cooks, househelp & staff. How it actually works

  1. 1

    The society network hires first

Most cooks and househelps in a building already work in it. Ask the society office and your floor's neighbours before anything else — staff who are known to the building come with built-in references and realistic timings.

  2. 2

The watchman is the real directory

Security staff know who serves which flats, who has a free slot, and who is reliable. A polite word at the gate typically produces two or three introductions within days.

  3. 3

    Agree the terms everyone uses

Monthly pay scales with tasks and building norms — ask two neighbours what the going rate is on your floor before negotiating. Standard practice: one paid day off a week, a Diwali bonus of one month's pay, and advance notice on leave both ways.

  4. 4

    Do the verification properly

Police verification for domestic staff can be done through your city police's citizen portal — Mumbai and Delhi run it online; Bengaluru accepts forms at the local station. Most societies require it, and good staff expect it. Keep a copy of ID, and share your own references too; trust runs both ways.
