Why this affects this area: Lingarajapuram flyover and Hennur Junction Road are named, cutting Banaswadi's route towards the CBD.

Runs late. Sourced reports describe activity continuing into the night.

Dates for Hindu festivals come from the panchang and move by weeks each year; Islamic dates are confirmed by a moon sighting the evening before and can move a day. We hold checked dates through 2027 and show nothing where we do not have one.

What it costs in Bengaluru

  • part-time cleaning (jhadu-pocha)₹4.5k₹15k / month

Sources disagree sharply, which is itself the finding. MyBuddyMaid quotes INR 4,500-9,000/month for 'task-based help for 1-4 hours a day' (sweeping-mopping, utensils, dusting, laundry on a fixed daily slot). EzyHelpers' Bengaluru guide of 24 July 2026 quotes INR 8,000-15,000/month for a part-time maid, priced by task bundle rather than by the hour - a single task such as utensils at the bottom, bundled sweeping, mopping, bathrooms and laundry near the top. The independent reference point is the IIHS survey of 9,636 households published December 2022, which found Bengaluru households paying between INR 2,000 and INR 13,000 per month per worker.

Moves with: Task bundle, hours, house size, family size, locality (Whitefield and Koramangala explicitly quoted at a premium), experience, language.

  • cook, one meal₹6k₹18k / month

IMPORTANT - not split by number of meals. EzyHelpers quotes INR 6,000-10,000/month for a part-time cook and INR 12,000-20,000 for a full-time cook. MyBuddyMaid quotes INR 10,000-18,000/month for a cook covering 'one or more daily meal slots'. The band here covers part-time cooking of one to two meals; a full-time cook is higher.

Moves with: Number of meal slots, cuisine, family size, whether utensils are included.

  • full-time live-out₹16k₹26k / month

EzyHelpers quotes INR 16,000-22,000/month for a full-time maid working eight to ten hours a day, and states that combined cleaning and cooking for a family of four or more sits at INR 20,000-22,000. MyBuddyMaid quotes INR 16,000-26,000/month for '8-12 hours a day (or live-in)'. This band brackets Karnataka's notified housekeeping minimum for Zone I (INR 15,044.56/month), which is what a full-day worker is legally owed at minimum.

Moves with: Hours, whether cooking is included, house and family size, locality.

  • live-in₹20k₹30k / month

EzyHelpers' 24 July 2026 Bengaluru guide quotes INR 22,000-30,000/month for a live-in maid, INR 25,000+ for a live-in cook, INR 20,000-25,000 for a live-in nanny and INR 20,000-30,000 for a live-in elder-care attendant. It states a private sleeping space and meals are included in the stated salary, and that pay rises with home size, presence of children or elderly, and night duties.

Moves with: Home size, children or elderly in the house, night duties, role.

  • nanny / childcare₹8k₹25k / month

EzyHelpers quotes INR 8,000-12,000/month part-time, INR 16,000-20,000 full-time and INR 20,000-25,000 live-in for a nanny or babysitter. MyBuddyMaid quotes INR 14,000-24,000/month. Note that Karnataka's notified schedule prices 'child care' with laundry and housekeeping at INR 15,390.62/month Zone I for a full day.

Moves with: Part-time vs full-time vs live-in, child's age, number of children, training.

  • elder care₹15k₹30k / month

EzyHelpers quotes INR 15,000-25,000/month full-time and INR 20,000-30,000 live-in for an elder-care attendant, with part-time priced per visit. MyBuddyMaid quotes INR 15,000-25,000/month for 'non-medical companionship and daily assistance for senior citizens at home'. Karnataka's schedule separately names 'Home Nurses' within the same scheduled employment.

Moves with: Level of assistance, night duty, live-in vs live-out, training.

How people actually find someone

  • Broomees

Operates in Bangalore alongside Delhi NCR, Pune and Ranchi. The household books online, Broomees sends vetted candidates and states it verifies backgrounds against government records using Aadhaar and police verification; the salary is agreed directly between household and helper.

Cost: INR 49 booking fee plus 18% GST, plus a monthly membership fee. Broomees states it takes no cut of the worker's salary.

  • EzyHelpers

A Bengaluru-centred placement agency with location-specific pages across the city. It screens and places live-in, full-time and part-time helpers, nannies and caregivers and publishes a detailed Bengaluru salary guide (last updated 24 July 2026).

Cost: INR 25,000 plus taxes for a live-in placement; part-time and full-time placement fees are quoted on consultation and not published.

  • MyBuddyMaid

Placement platform with a Bangalore city page. The household pays a one-time access fee for a verified candidate pool, interviews, and agrees the salary with the helper directly.

Cost: One-time access charge: Silver INR 4,999, Gold INR 5,999, Diamond INR 6,999.

  • Helper4U

Pan-India placement marketplace for maids, cooks, nannies, caregivers and drivers; households buy a hiring package to view and interview candidates.

Cost: Tiered one-off hiring packages paid by the household; states no commission on the worker's salary. Prices not published publicly.

  • MyGate

Used across Bengaluru apartment communities for visitor management and society administration - 27,000+ communities, 5 million+ homes, 50+ cities. Daily help are normally admitted on a code or pass issued by the resident.

    Cost: Paid by the society.

  • Domestic Workers Rights Union (DWRU)

Not a placement route, but the organised counterparty in Bengaluru. DWRU negotiates with the Karnataka Labour Department on domestic workers' wages and grievances and has publicly demanded a separate welfare board, departmental inquiry into employer-worker disputes and four days of paid leave a month. A household that wants to get the terms right can use its published demands as a reference point for what workers themselves consider fair.

In Banaswadi: Large mixed residential catchment; domestic help, cooks and drivers widely available at moderate rates , our own read on the area, without a source behind it, unlike everything above.

What the law says

There is a legal minimum wage for domestic work here.

Domestic work is a scheduled employment in this state, so a notified rate applies and paying below it is unlawful.

Police verification

Karnataka State Police issues a 'Police Verification Certificate for Domestic Servants / House Keeping'. There are two variants - antecedents verification only (a check against police records), or antecedents plus address verification. Application forms are available in English or Kannada at KarnatakaOne centres; the form costs INR 10, service fees are paid at the centre in cash or by card, and the completed form is submitted to the jurisdictional police station. Both the applicant and the address to be verified must be within Karnataka. The service is also listed on the National Government Services Portal. It is a voluntary service a household can request, not a statutory obligation.

The official page

Worth knowing

  • The single most important number for a Bengaluru employer: Karnataka's notified minimum for a full day of general cleaning and housekeeping in the BBMP area was INR 15,044.56 a month (INR 578.64 a day) for 2025-26, and INR 17,293.95 a month for cooking and kitchen work. This is law, not a suggestion, and it applies to private households because domestic work is a scheduled employment here.
  • The IIHS study published 12 December 2022, covering 9,636 households in Bengaluru and Chennai, found 54% of Bengaluru households employed domestic help, paying between INR 2,000 and INR 13,000 per month, and concluded that a worker on the lowest of those rates would have to work in six households to reach Karnataka's statutory minimum for domestic work (then stated as INR 12,241-14,711 a month). In other words, the market rate per household is set well below a lawful full-day wage, and the gap is made up by the worker running between houses.
  • If you employ someone part-time, do the arithmetic honestly: take the notified full-day monthly rate for the relevant category, work out what fraction of a normal working day your household actually takes, and pay at least that fraction. That is the fair-employer version of the law even where an inspector will never call.
  • In January 2025 Deccan Herald reported the Karnataka Labour Department and the Domestic Workers Rights Union at odds over a proposed minimum wage of INR 19,517 a month for an eight-hour day, six days a week, and over the union's demand for four days of paid leave a month; the Labour Minister rejected a separate welfare board on the ground that the other 393 unorganised-sector occupations would ask for the same. Karnataka has an estimated 3 lakh domestic workers and 3.11 lakh welfare cards issued under the unorganised sector welfare board.
  • Karnataka published a draft Domestic Workers Bill on 15 October 2025, open for public comment until 14 November 2025 and intended for the winter session of the Assembly. If enacted it would be India's first comprehensive state framework: mandatory written contracts stating wages, hours and notice; online registration of workers, employers and service providers renewed every three years; a 48-hour weekly cap with daily rest and a weekly day off; maternity benefit and social security; protection against forced labour, discrimination and sexual exploitation; a tripartite State Domestic Workers Social Security and Welfare Board; a welfare contribution of up to 5% from employers; and penalties up to INR 50,000. AICCTU criticised the department for publishing the draft only in English. A renter moving to Bengaluru should assume employer registration and a written contract may become compulsory.
  • Practical live-in standards published by Bengaluru agencies: show the actual sleeping space rather than describing it (mattress, somewhere to keep belongings, enough separation to rest), agree the number of meals and who cooks them before day one, distinguish being in the house from being on duty, and fix the weekly day off before the job starts - that last one is described as the single practice most associated with a live-in helper staying. Monitoring or confiscating a worker's phone is named as a common reason helpers leave.
  • Festival bonus convention as published by a Bengaluru agency: around one month's salary at Diwali or the helper's own main festival, sometimes split across the year. This is a convention, not a legal entitlement, and it is not a substitute for a lawful monthly wage.
  • The Home Management and Care Givers Sector Skill Council (HMCGSSC), which sets occupational standards, training and certification for home management and caregiving roles, held a national conclave in Delhi on 3 August 2026 pushing for role-specific professional titles instead of 'domestic helper', structured pre-deployment training, and formal certification for childcare and elderly care.

The honest traffic read

Banaswadi Main Road and the ORR stretch past Kalyan Nagar junction are the pinch points, with HRBR/OMBR traffic funnelling onto the ring road at peak. The railway over-bridge near Banaswadi station and the Horamavu side roads back up in the evenings.

When the streets fill up

A genuinely mixed calendar: Gowri-Ganesha pandals in the older Banaswadi village core, visible Christmas celebration across the St. Thomas Town/Kammanahalli church belt next door, and Ayudha Puja decking out the area's many garages and shops.

Cooks, househelp & staff. How it actually works

  1. 1

    The society network hires first

Most cooks and househelps in a building already work in it. Ask the society office and your floor's neighbours before anything else — staff who are known to the building come with built-in references and realistic timings.

  2. 2

The watchman is the real directory

Security staff know who serves which flats, who has a free slot, and who is reliable. A polite word at the gate typically produces two or three introductions within days.

  3. 3

    Agree the terms everyone uses

Monthly pay scales with tasks and building norms — ask two neighbours what the going rate is on your floor before negotiating. Standard practice: one paid day off a week, a Diwali bonus of one month's pay, and advance notice on leave both ways.

  4. 4

    Do the verification properly

Police verification for domestic staff can be done through your city police's citizen portal — Mumbai and Delhi run it online; Bengaluru accepts forms at the local station. Most societies require it, and good staff expect it. Keep a copy of ID, and share your own references too; trust runs both ways.
